Insights and views from a poor-sighted teacher

Hi, and welcome to ITaughtHistory.
I am a Secondary History Teacher in the UK, though I have also taught English, Religious Studies, Personal Development, and Geography.
I've been around, is what I'm saying!
I am also among the ranks of those who left teaching, only to come crawling right back.
From hospital escapees charging through the corridors, police tear gassing the staff room in a lockdown, to (thank god!) teaching a class of absolute angels, I think there is little I haven't seen - or have a view on!
About Me
It began with a beer...
One late night, a tired, stressed business development executive was enjoying a few London beers with a friend. Tales of job woes and near-finished degrees filter amongst a cacophony of other storied misadventures.
"Why not look at Teach First? You'd make a good teacher"
"Probably", came my inebriated reply.
One application later, a few interviews and a bundle of nerves later, I was there; teaching in a deprived area and loving it. And loathing it. And everything in between, really.
Teaching really is a rollercoaster of a career.
Covid, lockdowns, a new relationship and a crap school saw me step away briefly (into the field of data analytics). However, you can't keep a history nerd away from a captive audience for long, so back to teaching I went.

A tonne of hard work and self-discovery...
